Adoption Information
Welcome to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, Inc. (FAPS) Web site. We are delighted that you are considering adopting a cat or dog from FAPS. For over 26 years we have a proven track record of successfully, rescuing, sheltering and placing companion animals into permanent, loving homes in the Fayetteville area.
With 26 years of experience in the animal sheltering field we try to avoid impulse adoptions by conducting "onsite" adoptions at our 3927 Bragg Blvd. facility. Therefor you will not find us adopting at a FAPS event or FAPS public venue. Although we might be showing off our shelter pets we have found that through an application process and shelter visit, fewer companion animals are relinquished (returned) and go unwanted in our county.
We want you to find the perfect match for your family and lifestyle. We want this adoption to be a perfect match! For us, this just makes sense! Come see us, we have over 100 highly adoptable cats and dogs waiting for that second chance!

*Military Personnel refer to Military Pets section of our web site from homepage
* Adoption/Surrender Fees
Adoption and surrender fees are assessed to defray FAPS costs of spaying/neutering, vaccinating, micro chipping, feeding, sheltering and emergency veterinary care of our animals. FAPS receives no state or federal funding and relies on adoption and surrender fees, grants, and donations from the public to continue to operate for the community.
We hope you will understand why we must charge a fee, keep in mind we are a non-profit, 501c3 organization.

Adoption Policy
The following information is requested of potential adopters to assist in the selection of a new pet. Our animal’s welfare is our foremost consideration. The consultation process is designed to help us determine if the adoption is in the animal’s best interest and to assist you in finding a compatible companion that suits your lifestyle.
Below you will find our policies, adoption fees, and a sample of some of the important questions that will be asked should you visit our shelter and seek to adopt a cat or dog.
The animals are in our best interest and we want to permanently place them, therefore an adoption application must be filled out in order to be considered for adoption.
Our residents available for adoption come from a variety of sources. All animals are examined upon arrival, and their health is routinely monitored while at the shelter, but there is always a chance than an animal is incubating a disease without showing any clinical signs.
Fortunately in 2007, with the assistance of local veterinarians we now test and treat all heart worm positive dogs. All FAPS shelter dogs are placed on a monthly heart worm preventative and treated for this disease.
Adoption Policy
Our adoption fee is $95 for a dog and $ 70 for a cat. All adoptions come with a three - day health guarantee. Within three days of adoption, you may return the dog/cat to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society for any health reason for a full refund. All adopters will also be placed on our mailing list, where you will receive a complimentary subscription to PAW PRINTS, FAPS quarterly newsletter, featuring the shelter, upcoming events, and success stories.
After the three-day (72 hours) health guarantee, any adopted animals are the sole responsibility of the adopter. FAPS will NOT be responsible for any veterinary bills or other expenses incurred by the adopter.
Understanding that Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, Inc. reserves the right to deny the adoption of any pet for any reason. No animal will be adopted to persons having an extensive history of losing, giving away, selling, or having animals injured or killed by moving vehicles. No animal will be adopted to prospective owners who mislead or fail to provide accurate information on the adoption application.
Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, Inc. conducts random checks of adopters and reserves the right to make a home visit to check on the animal’s welfare. If you fail to comply with the terms of our contract and/or North Carolina state law, confiscation of the cat/dog may occur and title to the animal will revert to FAPS.
WE FULLY EXPECT THIS DOG OR CAT TO BE A LIFETIME COMMITMENT.
