military pets

FAPS location on Bragg Boulevard just minutes from Ft. Bragg has led us to the opinion that the animals in our county benefit from the military, as military families adopt many homeless animals in our area. While not only do the military personnel in our area have a great love for our country, but a great love for our companion animals!

FAPS has also benefited personally from the military as many of our board members, volunteers, and staff members have been and are military related. They arrive in Fayetteville with progressive ideas and experiences from other shelters throughout the world that help FAPS get one step closer to a solution, and not just a band-aid.

The military has a wonderful veterinary facility on Ft. Bragg that makes pet healthcare easily accessible and affordable to FAPS/Military adopters.
This facility also cares for and adopts out animals that are abandoned on Ft. Bragg.
We work closely with them.

As military personnel have been deployed over the past few years, there has been an increased number of pets needing homes in our county.

Many of these military pet owners have taken advantage of FAPS discounted surrender fees and our special consideration for military personnel. We understand the situation they are in and FAPS would like to do everything we can to assist them at that time.

Ft. Bragg Area Officers’ Spouses have also taken action to help with the surrender fees and by helping FAPS’ reach out to military families in need of pet assistance. They have awarded grant money to FAPS to assist specifically military pets and surrender fees.

Advice When Called To Duty

We understand situations arise and you may not be able to take care of your pet either short or long term due to a deployment.

We suggest you first seek a temporary home for your pet with close relatives or trusting friends, so that your faithful companion will be home awaiting your return.

Never leave your pet alone with stockpiled food and water. Never abandon them on the street; it is a violation of military and state law.

Check with the Ft. Bragg animal shelter, breed rescues or FAPS for foster programs available to care for your pet while you are deployed.

If you are unable to care for your pet and must surrender them, FAPS will be more than happy to access your pet for placement into a loving home. Please provide any medical records, temperament, training, and a personality profile to shelter staff, to ensure the most successful placement.

If you need any other assistance or general advice on your cat or dog feel free to contact the shelter during normal business hours, Tuesday- Saturday from 1-5, at 910-864-9040.

FAPS is happy to provide advice, free literature, and names of breed rescues and other shelters in the area should you need them.
