Volunteer Program

Why Volunteer?

One of the best and most rewarding ways you can help animals in Cumberland County is by volunteering at Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, Inc. (FAPS).

FAPS is a no-kill animal shelter, meaning our shelter pets are humanely cared for until they are successfully placed into a loving home.  Volunteering at a no-kill shelter is much easier on volunteers because they can rest assured that euthanasia is not practiced in order to make room for other animals . We love and care for all of our shelter animals as if they were our own!

  • Volunteerism for animals can unlock skills you may not know you possess! These skills can be applied toward work or a career in the animal care field. What better way to get hands-on experience than with our shelter staff, veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and administrative professionals?
  • Many high schools are now requiring student volunteer hours for graduation. We welcome you to assist our shelter staff with various duties throughout the school year to complete these requirements.
  • We offer shelter duties for volunteers of all ages.
  • Connect with other animal lovers and form new friendships!
  • Unable to have pets of your own"  Volunteering at FAPS will satisfy your need to have one of your own and you will know that the ones you tend to are in great hand with us!
  • Serve as a compassionate role model to children and other adults. Volunteer as little or as much as YOU like.
  • Volunteering for animals is so much fun! Get your family, spouse or partner, children, business, church or civic group involved with FAPS.

Helping improve the lives of animals in the community can be self-rewarding--especially when you see that tail wag or hear that joyful purr. It takes just one person--YOU--to make a big difference in the life of an animal.

Volunteer Requirements

All volunteers must fill out a volunteer application and attend an orientation (see schedule information below), before starting any volunteer work.

Volunteers 18 years and over are responsible for themselves.

Volunteers ages 14 –17 years old must have a parent/guardian sign a consent form and a parent must accompany the volunteer on the day of orientation and work. If the staff feels the volunteer is ready, he/she may report without the parent/guardian after the first day.
